Throughout all of early American history, there has been a constant battle between Native Americans and the earliest European settlers. There were many diverse, and complex views when approaching this subject matter; however, in 1830 President Andrew Jackson passed the Indian Removal Act, which forced Indians to relocate from their homelands in south east to land west of the Mississippi river. This granted the U.S. a large portion of new rich land, unfortunately it was at the expense of the Native Americans. When passing the Indian Removal Act of 1830, President Jackson relied on teleological utilitarianism ethnic views, in that he focused on the advancement of the majority rather the good of the minority. The great land dispute between Native Americans and the European settlers first began when our founding fathers began claiming land that was already Indian Territory. Romeo and Juliet - the Nurse Fills the Role of Juliet free essay sample

The Nurse fills the role of Juliet’s mother and Friar Laurence acts as Romeo’s father. Discuss the importance of these characters in Romeo and Juliet. In Shakespeare’s marvellous play Romeo and Juliet, we witness an unreal love affair between two teenagers in Fair Verona who are guided by two major characters: the Nurse, and Friar Laurence. Both of these characters each help accompany both Romeo and Juliet in their four day adventure through the ups and downs of one of the most powerful forces on the planet, which is love. These two characters, the Nurse and Friar Laurence, are incredibly important in the mystical journey of Romeo and Juliet, as they provide a loving factor that neither parent of Romeo nor Juliet could provide: parental guidance. The Nurse was able to fill in the role of Juliet’s mother when Lady Capulet was absent from Juliet’s younger years, when she was finding her feet so to speak. We will write a custom essay sample on Romeo and Juliet the Nurse Fills the Role of Juliet or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page Friar Laurence acted as a sort of peace keeper and adviser to Romeo during Romeo’s later years. The Friar filled in the role of Romeo’s father through the tough times Romeo was faced with in both his later years, as well as his final days. The Nurse acts as a mother to Juliet in many ways all throughout the play, and even before the play. When Juliet is in a time of hardship, it is the Nurse she turns to as opposed to her mother. The motherly figure in a girl’s life is often dependent upon whom she feels fits the position best, and in this case, it is the Nurse, not her true mother being Lady Capulet. It is evident that Juliet feels this way about the Nurse because in the scene in which Juliet is faced with the rage of her Father forcing her to marry Paris, she clearly turns away from her Mother for guidance. Instead, she asks the Nurse to comfort her. â€Å"What say’st thou? hast thou not a word of joy? Some comfort, Nurse. † Juliet clearly says to the Nurse, asking her for comfort. Not only this, however the Nurse practically raised Juliet to be the girl that she is today. Clear evidence of this is the fact that Juliet was breast fed by the Nurse as opposed to her real mother. The Nurse is not the only character in Romeo and Juliet that provides parental guidance to a child that is not theirs. Friar Laurence is another important character in this play as through his wise words of wisdom, he provides the ‘father that never was’ to Romeo. Romeo obviously trusts this man as he feels comfortable talking to him about his love life, as well as confronting him with issues that are logically much larger than love (such as banishment from Verona). As discussed regarding Juliet and the Nurse, Romeo feels more comfortable around the Friar as opposed to his real father, Montague.Romeo practically chooses the Friar over his real father which is evident in his conversing choices. Instead of going to his father to discuss his new love being Juliet, he decides to discuss this with the Friar. The Friar also helps Romeo with his Rosaline dramas. It is clear that Romeo trusts the Friar, as the Friar is also his consultant in the banishment saga. The Friar is in on all plans developed by Romeo and more than anything, the Friar wants Romeo to be happy just as any other father would. He sacrifices his good judgement to keep Romeo happy.Without the Friar, or the Nurse, Romeo and Juliet would be lost. The importance of these two characters in Romeo and Juliet is monumental and without them, there wouldn’t be a play. The importance of them can be displayed by looking at what would happen in the play without them. Firstly, the Friar was responsible for the devising the incredibly deceitful plan that would hopefully result in a happy ending for the couple. This plan, to kill Juliet off from society with the aid of a sedative produced by the Friar, was only possible thanks to the Friar.Without his assistance, there is a high chance that Romeo would never have been able to meet with his beloved Juliet again. The Prince clearly states â€Å" for that offence, immediately we do exile him [Romeo] hence.. .. † in Act 3, Scene 1. Due to the use of the word ‘immediately’, it is clear that Romeo’s offence is quite drastic and this is clear proof that Romeo has a slim chance of being accepted back into the society. The Nurse is just as important as the Friar in this play, mainly due to her willingness to help out her cherished Juliet in an attempt to keep up communication between the two childhood sweethearts.Without the Nurse, Juliet would be unable to communicate with Romeo purely because she is unable to be seen with him (due to the family feud between the Capulet’s and the Montague’s). The Nurse is a very good communication link between the two parties. Without these two characters, an elephantine amount of problems would arise in the play and thus, it proves their importance quite well. In Romeo and Juliet, it is quite clear that the parental guidance is not given to Romeo and Juliet by their blood-parents, rather it is given to them by two monumentally important characters being Friar Laurence and the Nurse. The Friar acts as a father to Romeo, mainly due to the trust that Romeo has laid with the Friar regarding his precious information regarding his love life and other such important matters. The Nurse acts as a mother to Juliet due to the guidance she provides, as well as the fact that the Nurse was there to raise Juliet up to be the fair lady that she is today where her mother, Lady Capulet, was not there to witness such a beautiful time in her short life. Without these two characters, Romeo and Juliet would be unable to intervene with each other as much as they do and not only this, however there wouldn’t be a play with out them.

Polar Bears and Global Warming Essay Example

Polar Bears and Global Warming Paper This global climate change has made it difficult for the animals in these regions to survive. One animal whose home is rapidly disappearing is the Polar Bear. This change in temperature is melting their white icy prairies that the polar bears desperately need to survive. As the polar bears habitat diminishes, so does the polar bears population. In order to protect the polar bears, humans need to make a valor effort to reduce the amount of pollution and greenhouse gases that we produce. Polar bears are one of the many species that are being affected by the polar CE caps melting. Sea ice is the foundation of the Arctic marine environment. Vital organisms live underneath and within the ice itself, which is not solid but pierced with channels and tunnels large, small, and smaller. Trillions of diatoms, zooplankton, and crustaceans pepper the ice column. In spring, sunlight penetrates the ice, triggering algal blooms. The algae sink to the bottom, and in shallow continental shelf areas th ey sustain a food web that includes clams, sea stars, arctic cod, seals, walrusesand polar bears (McGrath, Para. 4). These magnificent bears depend on the tundra to provide a frozen landing for hunting and taking a break while swimming far distances. Most bears live their entire lives out on the ice and only visit land to build birthing dens; however, as the ice continues to melt, the polar bears are destined to die prematurely due to the lack of food available and the lack of safe places to rest between swims. According to The U. S. Fish and Wildlife Service, the declining amount of sea ice is the number one threat against the survival of polar bears (Campbell, Para. 2). To paraphrase from Colic Campbell and Kate Landaus article The War Over the Polar Bear, the United States Geological Survey (USGS) noted that as the Arctic sea ice continues to melt, approximately two-thirds of the worlds polar bear population is expected to die out by 2050. This prediction can even be considered conservative, because the sea ice is melting faster than previously anticipated, according to the USGS polar bear proj ect leader Steve Masters (Campbell, Para. 13). Polar bears are native to Alaska, Canada, and Russia. The bears that live in the Norwegian archipelago of Scabbard, the Effort Sea, and Hudson Bay in Northeast Canada have been studied the longest. The western part of the Hudson Bay is where the ice is known to melt in the summer and freeze back in the fall. This is where the polar bears threat was first brought to light because as the years went on, and the planet continued to warm. The ice ceased to freeze back, making it difficult for the new mothers and baby cubs o survive the farther swims to find an frozen prairie where they could hunt and rest. As the distances between frozen arctic caps Increases, so does the number of bears that drown. Although polar bears are good, strong swimmers, they are not as well fed as they used to be, due to the lack of hunting land. As survival becomes less likely, fewer females give birth and fewer cubs actually survive. The polar bears predicament is a controversial topic, because in order for the government to put polar bears on the endangered species list, they would eve to admit that global warming is real and is happening right now. However, this is a time pressing matter, because within the next 50 years, the polar bear species could be wiped out completely. Global warming is the main cause of the problem at hand. If humans were able to limit the amount of green house gases that we release, maybe we could slow the warming of the planet and stop the ice caps from melting and never reforming. As long as the polar bears have ice caps to hunt on and rest on in between swims, less polar bears would die from starving or drowning. Slowing this death rate would increase the amount of cubs born each year and the survival rate would increase as well.

5 Ways To Avoid Interview Panic

5 Ways To Avoid Interview Panic So much work goes into the job search process that by the interview phase, emotions can run tense. You’ve worked so hard to get in the door and now the stakes are high, your palms are sweating, and you’re a bundle of nerves. Here are five things you can do to keep your cool and rock your interview.1. Prepare before you goThe best way to not panic in the interview is to be super well-prepared. If you know everything there is to know about the company and the position, if you have answers to all the usual questions, plus a few unusual ones, if you’re ready with thoughtful, constructive questions for your interviewer when prompted†¦ if you’ve done all of this, then you won’t be nervous about what’s to come. You’ll look confident, driven, and smart, and they’ll know without a doubt you wanted the job enough to do your homework. Who knows, the interview could even turn out to be enjoyable for both of you.2. Get some sleepYouâ₠¬â„¢re nervous. You can’t imagine calming down enough to go to sleep before the big day. But rather than staying up all night pacing (or watching Netflix, or surfing Facebook on your phone) in your darkened bedroom, make yourself a cup of tea and go to bed. You’ll be much fresher and sharper tomorrow, and infinitely less stressed.3. Practice makes perfectGet everything ready the night before. Try on and lay out what you plan to wear. Make sure your shoes are polished and your documents are in order. Then see if you can’t get a friend or roommate to practice asking you questions and assessing your answers. Saying things out loud the night before can make you sound more put together when you’re in the interview.4. Pump upListen to music that either soothes you or motivates you on your way to the interview. Studies show it can have a measurable effect. At very least, it’ll put a bit of bounce into your step and allow you to walk in relaxed and confide nt.5. Show up earlyBeing late is a big strike against you. But being a little early never hurt- especially if you’ve never been to that particular part of town or office before. You’ll be glad you have a few minutes of leeway in case your GPS messes up or you run into unexpected traffic.
